As the Chair of the Tropical Council for Companion Animal Parasites (TroCCAP) and Editor-in-Chief of the journal Parasites and Vectors, Dr. Dantas-Torres significantly influences research and policy in veterinary parasitology. He is also an integral part of the World Association for the Advancement of Veterinary Parasitology (WAAVP) and the Brasileish.  In 2002 he was awarded the World Small Animal Veterinary Association (WSAVA) One Health Award.  The global award is presented by WSAVA’s One Health Committee (OHC) to an individual or organisation which has promoted an aspect of One Health relevant to companion animals.
