Rooms are beginning to get booked up, so we strongly encourage you to make your reservation now on the Meliá reservation page. Payment will be taken at the hotel, not now when you reserve.
The process is very simple:
- Choose the dates. The conference kicks off at 8 am on Friday 1st April so if you don’t want to miss the opening session you should arrive on Thursday 31st March and, if you are participating for the full two days, your stay would finish on Sunday 3rd April.
- Select the number of people you are making the booking for. Remember that there are a maximum of 3 people allowed in 1 room.
- You can cancel the booking up to 15:00 on 24th March (1 week before the booking). If you cancel between 7 day(s) & 48 hour(s) before arrival: 1 night(s) charge as cancellation penalty will apply.
- Payment is made at the hotel.
- The hotel has excellent rooms located between the first and fourth floors. There is a terrace and sea views as well as a working space with free Wi-Fi, in these bright, spacious and comfortable rooms.
- The price for 1 person per night is €115,50 / night, for two people in one room the price is €126,50 / night and for 3 people sharing a room, the price is €165 / night.
- All reservations include breakfast.

The first Animal Leishmaniosis International Veterinary Event – ALIVE 2022 – will take place from March 31st to April 2nd at the Meliá Costa del Sol, Málaga, Spain.
The first edition of ALIVE (Animal Leishmaniosis International Veterinary Event) has two streams, with worldwide speakers, to cover both the research aspects of animal leishmaniosis and the clinical diagnosis and treatment for this important zoonosis.
The event will be simultaneously presential and online with participants able to choose the format that they prefer.
For those participants opting for the presential format in Málaga, there will be a unique opportunity to join the Speakers and members of LeishVet in round table events, to discuss real clinical cases and other aspects related to the epidemiology, diagnosis, clinical treatment and prevention of animal leishmaniosis.

ALIVE 2022 Venue: Hotel Meliá Costa del Sol, Málaga
The LeishVet ALIVE International Leishmaniosis Event venue is in the conference centre of the Hotel Meliá Costa del Sol in Spain
We will be offering a hybrid event, where, apart from online attendance, there will be an opportunity to be present at the conference and take part in all the activities such as the informal get together or the conference dinner on Saturday evening. For those that choose the presential option, the ALIVE 2022 event will be held in Hotel Meliá Costa del Sol. This magnificent resort is located in Málaga where visitors will be able to enjoy all that the Costa del Sol and its beaches have to offer.
The fantastic Convention Centre is equipped with the latest technology and has the latest audiovisual equipment. It has 11 meeting and banqueting rooms all with natural light and a capacity for up to 600 people – the perfect place for any type of event.
The hotel has 538 rooms and suites with stunning sea views. There are a number of different lunch and dining spaces (outdoor Rooftop Terrace, Chiringuito on the beach, Buffet Restaurant and Lobby Bar) as well as an outdoor pool overlooking the sea surrounded by gardens.
For those that want to be pampered the Thalasso Spa measuring 350 m2 is equipped with a sea-water pool at 36ºC, a steam bath, a sauna, two massage cabins (one for two people) and a relaxation area. And for those that want to keep fit, apart from spectacular jogging along the seafront, there is a gym that is open 24 hours a day.

ALIVE 2022 is proud to announce that the keynote speaker will be Prof. Jeffrey Shaw
Prof. Jeffrey Shaw will be opening the LeishVet ALIVE International Leishmaniosis conference.
There is one name that stands out in the world of animal Leishmaniosis, Jeffrey Shaw OBE, FLS, FASTMH. With more than 250 publications related to Leishmaniosis, Chagas disease and different aspects of other neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) he is the leading authority on animal Leishmaniosis.
Originally from England, he has worked on leishmaniasis in Brazil since 1965, initially in the Amazon region, where he was based at the Instituto Evandro Chagas, Belem, Brazil. In 1994 he left Belem to take up a tenured professorship in Sao Paulo University’s Parasitology Department located in its Biomedical Sciences Institute.
When in Belem, in what became the Wellcome Parasitology Unit, he and his team were responsible for a multitude of discoveries about Leishmania and its various species. Over the years the work of his team revolutionised the study of leishmaniasis, and according to Shaw.
“This knowledge made fundamental changes in understanding the pathology, clinical immunology, treatment, vaccination, and control of what is not one disease but a mosaic of diseases.”
He retired in 2008 but continues there as a Senior Professor. He has been a member of three WHO Leishmaniasis Expert Committees, is a WHO expert advisor on Parasitic Diseases (Leishmaniasis) and an advisor to national and international research and funding agencies.
Prof. Shaw is a fellow of the Brazilian Academy of Science, the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene and founder and director of the International Leishmaniasis discussion group (Leish-L).
His keynote speech will be on Understanding the amazing diversity of Leishmaniases.

The 2022 Inaugural Conference will take place in Málaga, Spain
The Organizational Committee for ALIVE has chosen Málaga for the first Animal Leishmaniosis International Veterinary Event to be held from the 31st of March to the 2nd of April, 2022.
Amongst the many reasons for this choice, the beautiful weather that the Costa del Sol offers, the great connections by land, sea and air and the top level services offered for an outstanding event.
Málaga is the perfect destination to host an international event at the end of March with pleasant temperatures that will allow you to enjoy the sun and even swimming in the sea.
Málaga-Costa del Sol International Airport, the 4th busiest in Spain, has direct flights to 133 destinations and serves 16 million passengers annually. It is located only 8km away from the city centre. The city is also connected to the high speed train network (AVE) and can take you to Madrid, Barcelona and Seville, among other cities.
